Heavy rain in Kuttanad causes a crop loss of Rs 67 crores, farmers worried

ALAPPUZHA: Crop loss of Rs 67 crore was reported in Kuttanad during the summer rain and washing away of bunds within eight days. Paddy cultivation suffered a loss of Rs 59 crore. 4,841 hectares of crops were destroyed. Preliminary figures from the Department of Agriculture show that 11,441 farmers have been affected.

Loss - Rs 59,4219 crore

Crop Damage- 3,964.06 hectare

Farmers- 5,407

Banana

Loss - 6.96 crore

Crop damage- 410.29 ha

Farmers- 3,211

Coconut and seedlings

Loss - 8.85 lakhs

Damage to crops - 13.19 ha

Farmers- 129

Vegetables

Loss - 52.42 lakhs

Crop damage - 126.8 ha

Farmers- 2006

Rubber

Loss - 5.97 lakhs

Crop Damage- 2.42 ha
