GLASGOW: A court has found an Indian-origin doctor guilty of sexually harassing his woman patients in the past 35 years. Dr Krishna Singh, a general practitioner in Scotland, was found guilty by the Glasgow High Court. The 72-year-old doctor had sexually harassed 48 patients between 1983 and 2018.
In 2018, a young woman came forward with a complaint against Krishna Singh. Following this, an investigation was launched against him. The investigators later found that he had sexually harassed several women over the years. A number of patients had accused him of kissing, groping, giving inappropriate examinations and making sleazy comments. Local media reported that he had harassed women in the emergency department of the hospital and even at a police station.
Singh was seen as a respected member of the community, even awarded the royal Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) honour for his contribution to medical services.
The court found the doctor guilty of 54 offences, including sexual assault. The prosecution was unable to prove the nine charges against him.
The court granted bail to the accused on the condition that he surrendered his passport. The court will pronounce the sentence next month.
