THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Muslim organizations oppose the transfer of Waqf Board appointments to PSC. The organizations clarified the impracticality of the issue at a meeting convened by the Chief Minister. Organizations, including Samastha, say there is no need for a permanent recruitment board. The organizations informed the Government that Kerala was a model for the whole of India and that in no state in India had the appointment of a Waqf been left to the PSC. Leaders of various organizations have said that such decisions could have serious repercussions for the Muslim community in other states.
Speaking to media after the meeting, the leaders of various organizations said that the Chief Minister respected the sentiments of the organizations that participated in the meeting. The CM said that a decision would be taken by considering their opinion. Eleven organizations that attended the meeting said that board appointments should be made by religious organizations and Waqf members. But the government have not made any decision in this regard. The AP faction present at the meeting said it had no objection in leaving the appointment to PSC and demanded that the appointees should be religious and that the process should be transparent. Jamaat-e-Islami was not invited to the meeting.
