New liquor policy: 68 more beverage outlets to be opened in the state

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 68 more beverage outlets will be opened in the state as part of the new liquor policy. An order in this regard will be issued soon. Most of the outlets on the list had to be shut down following a court order banning the sale of liquor within 500 meters of national and state highways.

Number of outlets that will be opened in each district
Thiruvananthapuram – 5, Kollam – 6, Pathanamthitta – 1, Alappuzha – 4, Kottayam – 6, Idukki – 8, Ernakulam – 8, Thrissur – 5, Palakkad – 6, Malappuram – 3, Kozhikode – 6, Wayanad – 4, Kannur– 4, Kasargod-2.

BEVCO had recommended that 170 outlets be allowed to open to avoid congestion. However, the government did not fully approve it.
