Coal shortage, seven hours power cut in Rajasthan; severe crisis in Andhra and UP

power-cut

NEW DELHI: Amid the prevailing coal crisis in the country, the Rajasthan government has announced power cuts in the state. However, reports suggest that there are unannounced power cuts in the state, lasting about seven hours. The state is going through a severe crisis, said the electricity minister. Similar crises prevail in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra as well.

Engineers have warned that India is moving towards acute power crisis. However, the government has said that the country has enough coal reserves to last for the next 30 days and there is no need for any concern. Currently, Coal India Limited (CIL) has coal reserves of around 72.5 million tonnes.

Other thermal power plants in the country have 22 million tonnes of coal. The daily use in thermal power plants accounts for about 2.1 million tonnes. According to government sources, there are coal reserves for another 30 days.
