‘Can’t win through sympathy in Thrikkakkara’; Dominic Presentation openly lashes out at Uma Thomas’ candidacy in by-election

ERNAKULAM: The by-election date in the Thrikkakkara constituency, which fell vacant with the demise of P T Thomas, has been announced. Since its formation, only Congress has won in the constituency. According to reports, the Congress is planning to field P T Thomas’ wife Uma Thomas in the by-election. However, Congress leader Dominic Presentation has openly said that sympathy votes cannot yield victory in Thrikkakkara. The leader made the comment in an interview with a private channel.

‘A candidate with a winning probability should be brought in for the election. Thrikkakkara is a constituency where social equations exist. A candidate should be chosen after considering all these matters. Although it is a constituency where the Congress candidate has traditionally won, victory cannot be assured as it is a by-election. There will be a lot of plotting happening amid by-elections that we may not know. In a constituency like Thrikkakkara, it is not sympathy but politics and positions that matters’, said Dominic.

Dominic Presentation also expressed his stance on the K V Thomas issue. In by-elections, even if a person leaves the party, it will have severe impacts. Success can be achieved only if everyone stands together without any disputes, he said.
