THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The activities of the police to promote blood donation and provide blood in emergencies are gaining attention.

The Pol-Blood service is provided through the Police Pol-App mobile app. The service, which started in 2021, has so far provided free blood to 6488 needy people. 10921 units of blood were thus donated. This is the first time in India that a police app has been set up for blood donation.

There are 32885 blood donors registered in Pol Blood. Donors and those who need blood in an emergency can download and register the app from Play Store and the App Store. Thiruvananthapuram has the highest number of registered blood donors at 6880.

The Pol-Blood Slate Control Centre at Peroorkada SAP Camp have done this arrangement to make the blood available to the needy. Those in need of blood will be connected to blood donors in the district or other places through the app. This work is done in collaboration with the AIDS Control Society. At the time of registration, blood donors are required to provide their name, blood type, contact number, date of last blood donation and district of residence. Those in need of blood should provide the patient's name, blood group, amount of blood required, time of blood donation, hospital information, district and contact number.
