MALAPPURAM: There is a POCSO case against T H Mohammed (52), who murdered his wife and daughter by setting fire to a goods auto after locking them inside it and later ended his life by jumping into the well at Pandikkad in Perinthalmanna, in Kasargod. Mohammed was in jail for 240 days in the case registered by the Melparambu police. The incident happened on November 28 in 2020. A family quarrel over this led his wife Jasmin (37) and his children to leave him.
Mohammed and Jasmin have three children. Mohammed, who went to Kasargod when Jasmine was carrying his first child, married a woman there. He returned after that relationship failed. There is a case against him for harassing his first wife in the name of dowry. He married Jasmin 21 years ago without legally divorcing his first wife.
Mohammed came in a goods auto placing explosives at a rubber plantation near Jasmin’s house. He then asked Jasmin and her children to come here. As their eldest daughter Farshida (19) did not go to the place in fear of her father, escaped from the accident. As soon as the vehicle caught fire, relatives rushed to the spot and pulled their youngest daughter Shifana (5) out. The child is undergoing treatment for severe burn injuries. Jasmine and her daughter Fatima Safa (11) were charred to death.
When they were locked up inside the auto, Fatima called Jasmin’s sister Razeena and told her that their life was in danger. By the time Razeena reached the spot, he had already set them fire. He also caught fire and jumped into a nearby well. Police said it is not clear whether he jumped into the well to escape or for a suicide.
Razeena pulled Shifana and doused the flames with a shawl. The vehicle exploded with a loud sound. The vehicle was in fire for 45 minutes. The fire was doused by the fire force. The bodies of Jasmine and Safa burnt beyond recognition.
Forensic and dog squads reached the spot from Malappuram. After inquest, the bodies were shifted to Manjeri Medical College for post-mortem. Police said the murder was planned and that would investigate from where he got the explosives from.
