KOLLAM: Tomato fever has raised concerns amid the spread of Covid. Fever affects children under the age of five. The Health department has warned people to be vigilant following reports of tomato fever in Kollam district. So far 82 cases have been confirmed in the district.
These are figures reported only in government hospitals. The number of cases will increase further if private hospitals and others are taken into account. The Health department has taken preventive measures in Neduvathur, Anchal and Aryankavu areas where the disease was detected.
The authorities also said that the spread of the disease among children is on the rise. Following this, the Health department conducted awareness classes at houses and anganwadis. Anganwadis in many areas have been closed following the confirmation of the disease in children.
Symptoms of tomato fever
Symptoms include high fever, fatigue, excruciating pain, and discoloration of the hands, feet, inside the mouth, buttocks, and knees, as well as chicken pox. Red pimples and lumps form on the palms of the hands and feet. Burns on the inside of the mouth make it difficult for children to eat and so on.
