180 kg of stale meat seized, 152 shops closed, food security inspections to continue in state, says Minister

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Veena George said that the Food Security Department today conducted 572 inspections in the state as part of the 'Nalla bhakshanam nadinte avakasham' (Good Food is the Right of the state) campaign. Action was taken against 10 shops which were not licensed or registered. Notices were issued to 65 institutions. 18 kilograms of unclean meat was seized and destroyed. The minister said that 4 samples were sent for testing.

In the last 7 days from May 2 till today, 1704 inspections have been carried out across the state. Action was taken against 152 shops which were not licensed or registered. Notices were issued to 531 institutions. 180 kilograms of unclean meat was seized and destroyed. 129 samples were sent for testing.

As part of Operation Matsya, 6069 kilograms of stale and chemically contaminated fish have been destroyed so far. Out of 4026 tests during this period, 2048 samples were collected and sent for testing. As part of Operation Jaggery, which was launched to detect adulteration in jaggery, 481 establishments were inspected. 134 surveillance samples of jaggery have been collected for expert laboratory testing. The minister said the inspections would continue vigorously.
