Naithalakkavu Bhagavathy arrives through south tower gate, thousands witness Pooram proclamation

THRISSUR: The proclamation of Thrissur Pooram took place amongst the traditional fervor of thousands of Pooram lovers. The Pooram was proclaimed after Naithalakkavu Bhagavathy entered through the south tower gate of Vadakkumnathan Temple with the shankha blown three times.

Kuttur Naithalakkavamma’s Thidambu was carried by Ernakulam Shiva Kumar of Cochin Devaswom Board. The ceremonies began by 8 am on Monday and the procession reached Vadakkumnathan Temple by around 10:30 am. On the day of Pooram, the south tower door is kept open for the Kanimangalam Sastha to enter into the Vadakkumnathan Temple.

Despite the scorching heat, thousands had flocked to see the Pooram proclamation. A huge team of police has been deployed to control the crowd. The display of caparisons (Chamaya Pradarshanam) had begun in Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu on Monday morning. Thousands took part in the display. The arrangements for the fireworks are also in progress.

On the day of Pooram, all the eight subsidiary temples will return to the Vadakkumnathan Temple. The Panchavadyam (an orchestra of five instruments) under Kongad Madhu has been scheduled at 11 am. After the Pandi Melam, the Thiruvambady group will reach Vadakkumnathan Temple. The famous Ilanjithara Melam will begin by around 2:30 pm. The vibrant Kudamaattam (exchange of decorated umbrellas) will take place at 5 pm. The Pakal Pooram will end on Wednesday at the Sreemoolasthanam.

In addition to the 3611 police officers, an additional force of 4,000 police personnel including 400 Reserve Police officers, have been deployed to control the Pooram crowd. The police troops will be led by 36 DySPs, 64 inspectors and 287 sub inspectors. Digital facilities, including an animation video of the Pooram ceremonies, have been arranged to provide duty information to the officers. The video link will be sent to the registered mobile phone numbers of the policemen. On seeing the video, the policemen will be able to understand their duty details easily. The PRO department of Thrissur city police had worked behind the making of the video.
