From now, 'Sugama portal' will oversee repair works of dug-up roads

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Sugama portal has come up with the assurance that the dug-up roads will no longer be left as a danger to the lives of the commuters. If a pipe is to be laid or repaired, permission must be obtained by registering with the Sugam Portal to dig roads.

The measures are being taken jointly by the Public Works Department, the Local Self Government Department and the Water Authority.

All information like when the road will be excavated, how long will it take to complete the work, when the road reconstruction work will be completed, and the liability period for the road that has been re-tarred should be given in the portal. Display boards containing such information should be placed near the road.

Special permission options in emergencies like pipe ruptures are also included.

Information including the estimate required to repair the road should also be uploaded. The inspection should be done jointly by the concerned officer of the Local Government Engineering Department and the Water Authority officials to prepare the design and information including the estimated amount. 10 percent of the amount required for reconstruction should be set aside as a security deposit. No security deposit is required for urgent work like pipe breakages. The default liability period (DLP) for a road being reconstructed is one year.

The directive issued by the Local Government Secretary also clarifies the technical conditions to be followed while carrying out reconstruction work.
