Major theft at Guruvayur, three kg gold and Rs 2 lakh stolen from gold merchant’s house

GURUVAYUR: Gold and cash have been stolen from a house in Guruvayur. The burglary happened at the house of Balan, an expatriate, at Kuranjiyoor in Guruvayoor Thampuranpadi. Three kilograms of gold and Rs 2 lakh were stolen from the house.

The theft is believed to have happened last night at 7.30 pm. Balan, who was a gold trader in the Gulf, returned to his home town after stopping his business there. The gold was kept in shelves in bars. The family had gone for a movie at a nearby theatre last evening. When they returned, they found the back door of the house broke opened. When they checked the almirah on suspicion found the gold missing. All the gold kept in the shelf has been lost.

Only one person is involved in the burglary. His CCTV visuals have been obtained but his face is not clear. The police are checking the CCTV visuals of nearby areas to get more information about the thief. It is also suspected whether anyone close to the family is behind the theft. The investigation is progressing in that angle also.
