Postmortem reveals minor cuts on Sahana's body, hints at suicide; husband arrested

KOZHIKODE: Following the postmortem of actress Sahana's body, a preliminary conclusion has been reached that it was a suicide. Her husband Sajad was arrested under abetment to suicide charges. The accused will be produced in court tomorrow. The woman has minor cuts on her body. ACP Sudarshan said the police would further look into it to find whether this was due to torture.

Samples were collected for chemical testing. The body was handed over to relatives. She will be buried on Friday night. Sahana and her husband had been living in a rented house in Parambil Bazaar for a month and a half. Neighbours claim to have seen Shahana lying tired on Sajad's lap. Sahana was rushed to a medical college hospital by police but was pronounced dead at the scene following a tip-off from neighbours.

Sahana's mother Umaiba alleged that she was killed by her husband. She said her daughter would never commit suicide and that Sajad and her relatives had been harassing her constantly since the day she got married. The mother further added that today is her daughter's 20th birthday and she will not commit suicide as she was invited home to celebrate. Sajad hails from Cherukulam in Kozhikode. Sahana has acted in some jewellery commercials and minor roles in Tamil films. The couple got married a year and a half ago.
