THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 48-year old KSRTC driver Manithan reaches Thampanoor Central Depot for duty with cancer in one eye. He is being treated at RCC and Aravind Hospital in Madurai. The checkup in Madurai has been suspended for two months. His last salary was paid on April 19 and he is yet to receive this month's salary. He struggles to make his family ends meet along with his treatment expenses.
This is not just the story of one employee. He is a representative of KSRTC employees who struggles in financial crisis. As many as 25,612 families have been affected due to KSRTC's non-payment of wages for 18 days this month. The government says that there is no money to pay the salaries due to the financial crisis.
It is alleged that the management and the government are trying to teach the employees 'manners' on a daily basis. Diesel needs more than salary. The government is not ready to give tax breaks to diesel or take on debt. None of this was made by the staff. The government has funds for new projects and other unneccesary needs and not for the KSRTC employees.
