Heavy rains continue in state; orange alert in seven districts, strong and thunderstorms likely to hit

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains continue in the state. The Central Meteorological Department has forecast isolated showers in Kannur for the next three hours and winds to blow at a speed of 40 kmph.

Central and northern Kerala are likely to receive more rainfall today. Orange alert has been sounded in seven districts. The orange alert is in districts from Thrissur to Kasaragod. Yellow alert has been declared in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kottayam and Idukki. There are chances of thunderstorms and strong winds.

The meteorological department informed that the cyclones in the Bay of Bengal, low pressure trough from Kerala to Vidarbha and strong westerly winds and rain will increase the intensity of the rain. Heavy rains will continue in Kerala for two more days. Authorities warned fishermen not to venture into the sea.
