KOZHIKODE: The vigilance section of the Public Works Department (PWD) on Thursday, will inspect Koolimadu bridge, whose beams had collapsed amid construction. The documents pertaining to the construction will be inspected and statements of the officials will be recorded.
The inspection will be led by deputy chief engineer M Ansar. Hints suggest that the report will be submitted soon. According to the report submitted by the Kerala Road Fund Board before the government, the accident occurred due to a technical fault in the hydraulic jack.
The construction of the bridge, across Chaliyar river connecting Kozhikode and Malappuram, had begun on March 7, 2019. Uralungal Labour Society are the contractors of the project. The construction was aimed to be completed within 24 months. The concrete beams of the bridge had collapsed on last Monday morning at 9 am.
