Visionary leader, compassionate and kind man; Leaders pay homage to Rajiv Gandhi on his 31st death anniversary

NEW DELHI: Leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 31st death anniversary at his memorial Veer Bhumi in Delhi.

“My father was a visionary leader whose policies helped shape modern India”, said Rahul Gandhi on Twitter.

“He was a compassionate & kind man, and a wonderful father to me and Priyanka, who taught us the value of forgiveness and empathy. I dearly miss him and fondly remember the time we spent together,” he tweeted.

Several prominent Congress leaders, including P Chidambaram and Sachin Pilot, have also paid tribute to the former prime minister. Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on May 21, 1991 at a rally in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. His last rites took place at Veer Bhumi on the banks of the river Yamuna.
