ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan praised the Indian government’s decision to reduce fuel prices. India sustained pressure from the US and bought discounted oil from Russia to provide relief to the masses, he said.

“Despite being part of the Quad, a grouping of India, US, Japan and Australia, India sustained pressure from the US and bought discounted Russian oil to provide relief to the masses”, Imran Khan said on Twitter.

While lauding India, Imran also used the opportunity to justify his part and criticized the current Pak government. “This is what our government was working to achieve with the help of an independent foreign policy”, he added.

Later, in another tweet, Imran criticized the Shehbaz Sharif-led government in Pakistan. “For our government, Pakistan's interest was supreme but unfortunately the local Mir Jafars and Mir Sadiqs bowed to external pressure forcing a regime change, and are now running around like a headless chicken with the economy in a tailspin”, he tweeted.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday announced the central government’s decision to reduce excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 and diesel by Rs 6. Accordingly, the prices of petrol and diesel will go down by Rs 10.40 and Rs 7.37 respectively in Kerala. The renewed prices will come into effect on Sunday.
