Union Deputy Minister V Muraleedharan has levelled harsh criticisms against Finance Minister K N Balagopal’s statement in the fuel price issue. The finance minister had opined that the change in fuel prices in the state, following the reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by the central government, was not a natural reduction but a reduction by the state. However, the union minister said that it was wrong and added that Kerala, which got debt-ridden due to spendthriftness, is unable to reduce even one rupee.
Muraleedharan also demanded the finance minister to explain the reduction figures and said that Balagopal need not show his misdeeds against Modi government. According to the minister, the decision to reduce the tax revenue by Rs 1 lakh crore was due to the central government's inability to witness the hardships of the common man due to inflation.
