KOCHI: Children from the slums of Kochi and neighbouring areas took part in the football Soccer League organised by IAS and IPS officers. Megastars Mammootty and Manju Warrier were also present to witness the match which took place yesterday.
The goal of the Soccer League was to prevent slum youth from being led astray by drugs and violence. Mammootty, Manju Warrier and Kerala football team captain Jijo Joseph presented the awards to the winners. Former police chief Loknath Behera and Coastal IG P Vijayan, Kochi Port Authority Chairperson Dr M Beena, Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation MD Prasanth Nair, Collector Jafar Malik, City Police Commissioner CH Nagaraju and other prominent personalities were present.
Twelve teams participated in the league and River Plates became the champions. The aim is to make the champions part of the best soccer academy in Kerala.
