‘Whenever my daughter shared her sorrows with me, I told her to let it go… now my daughter is gone’; another father seeks justice

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: “Whenever my daughter shared her sorrows with me, I consoled her by saying let it go… Now my daughter is gone”, said Mohanan of Krishna Bhavan, Mundakkal lane in Nalanchira. This father is trying to bring out the mystery behind the death of his differently-abled daughter Shyama (29) and granddaughter Adhyasree, following dowry abuse. Both of them were found dead with burn wounds, at Shyama’s husband’s house, 18 days ago. A complaint was lodged with the DGP on Monday. As the court is about to pronounce the quantum of sentence in the Vismaya case, another father has begun his fight for justice.

The complaint was lodged so that the ones responsible for my daughter’s death could be brought to justice, said Mohanan. The DGP also assured that the accused will not be spared and will be punished, he added. My daughter didn’t have to commit suicide. She had suffered severe abuses in the name of dowry and superstitions, he said. “I have explained everything, from Shyama’s marriage proposal onwards, to Aranmula SHO Manoj, who came to our house in order to record statements, last day. Shyama was married to differently-abled Vineeth Vishwanath, a native of Aranmula, six years ago.
