THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The monsoons are advancing to Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, said the central meteorological department. The monsoon may further advance over some parts of south-west Arabian Sea, entire Maldives and adjoining areas of Lakshadweep, some more parts of Comorin area and the southern parts of Bay of Bengal.

Conditions are favourable for further advance of the monsoon to the southern Arabian Sea and the adjoining areas of Lakshadweep, during next 48 hours, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The advance of the monsoon over Kerala is being continuously monitored, IMD said.

Meantime, fishing has been banned in the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast. The ban comes after the IMD warned of strong winds with speed of 40 to 50 kilometre per hour along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast, the Kerala coast, adjoining Kanyakumari coast and the south Tamil Nadu coast, on Thursday and Friday. The order was issued by Thiruvananthapuram district collector Dr Navjot Singh Khosa.
