Prime Minister Narendra Modi praises Tamil amid Hindi language controversy, inaugurates various projects worth Rs 31,000 crore in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come up praising the Tamil language amid controversy over making Hindi the official language. Modi said that the Tamil language was eternal and that Tamil culture was global. The Prime Minister was addressing a gathering at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai after the inauguration of various projects.

During his speech, the PM said that the people, language and culture of Tamil Nadu were outstanding. In January this year, the new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil was inaugurated in Chennai. The new campus is fully funded by the Union Government, he said. At the outset, Modi said that people from Tamil Nadu excel in various fields.

Chief Minister Stalin had said that Tamil and Hindi should be given equal consideration. Modi's statement came after this. Stalin also demanded that Tamil be made the official language in the state high court and central government offices.

Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway.

Redevelopment of 5 stations - Chennai Egmore, Rameswaram, Madurai, Katpadi and Kanniyakumari.

The Prime Minister inaugurated 11 projects worth Rs 31,000 crore in the state at a function in Chennai. This includes the 262 km Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway.
