THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: President Ramnath Kovind has lauded Kerala as a shining example for decades in overcoming obstacles for women on the path to excellence. He was inaugurating the national conference of women legislators organized in the Kerala Legislative Assembly as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. "Kerala is a model state in harnessing the potential of women in health, education and employment. Kerala has always been at the forefront of contributing health workers in times of crisis", he said.

The President pointed out that Kerala is the state that presented to India the first woman Justice M Fathima Beevi to reach the highest office of the Judiciary.

The President reminded that the better participation of women in the political process is conducive to the complete empowerment and improvement of the quality of society. "More women should contest and win elections. It is not appropriate to say that 50 per cent reservation given to women in local bodies is women's empowerment. Because women are powerful. One after another, women are overcoming obstacles in various fields. The latest is the increased participation of women in the armed forces. Women make up the majority of the corona warriors who guarded the nation during the months of crisis. They were a model of selfless care", he added.
