Man sustains serious injuries in suicide attempt in police station

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A man tried to commit suicide in a police station in the capital city. The incident happened at Aryanad police station this afternoon. The victim has been identified as Shaiju (47) of Pacha Thengumkonam Puthen Veettil. The youth who reached the station asking help to find his missing wife doused petrol on his body and set ablaze.

The tapping labourer had lodged a missing complaint of his wife on May 25 at the Puthoor police station. The police had caught her from the premises of the medical college the other day. However, she told police that she is not interested in going with him.

He reached the Puthoor Station again this morning and requested the police to find her. The police calmed him and had sent him back. He reached the station again requesting the police to trace her. He later went out and returned with petrol and lit his body with a cigarette lighter. The police immediately doused the flames and took him to the hospital. The police suspect him to have drunk.
