ALAPPUZHA: A search has been launched to find the father of the child who chanted provocative slogans during a rally organized as part of a Popular Front conference. The child is a seventh grader in a school in Mattancherry. His father is a butcher and an auto broker. Hints also suggest that he is an office bearer of the Popular Front.

The family had lived in a rented house in Ramankutty Bhagavathar Lane near Thangal Nagar. The rented house now remains locked. The Alappuzha South police on Friday inspected the boy’s father’s ancestral house in Panchayat road as well.

The police have taken 24 others into custody in connection with the case. Of them, 18 people have been arrested. They have been booked for creating an opportunity to spread religious hatred. The accused were produced before the magistrate at his residence by around 10 pm on Friday and remanded. Meanwhile, the Popular Front will hold a demonstration towards the Alappuzha SP office, in protest against the arrest.
