Undercurrents within the party increased impact of LDF defeat in Thrikkakara

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Despite being a stronghold of the UDF, the CPM has come to the conclusion that the impact of defeat of the left front in Thrikkakara was increased by undercurrents within the party.

It is also evaluated that the shift from the traditional left style starting from the nomination process has created confusion in the party. The campaign tactics were also not fruitful. The state secretariat has directed the CPM district unit to examine everything in detail.

After the voting, the district leadership submitted a report to the state centre indicating that they might win by a narrow margin in Thrikkakara. The assessment is that the failure to recognize local sentiments was due to fault in working of the squad.

Even the Left supporters were not happy about how the candidate was introduced. At the same time, the UDF's general dominance in the constituency and their support, minority votes in favour of UDF, PT Thomas' influence and sympathy votes led to LDF's defeat.

The defeat just after the first anniversary of second Pinarayi government is a setback to the party. There may also be temporary interventions to avoid controversy over big projects like SilverLine. The Chief Minister, who campaigned for days in Thrikkakara, is also dissatisfied with the results. He has not yet responded. He went to Kannur on Friday and will return on Tuesday.
