JAIPUR: Reports suggest that the incident in which three sisters were found dead in a well along with their children was following dowry violence. Three young women from an agricultural family of six daughters, were married off to three brothers. The women, namely Kalu, Kamlesh and Mamta were found dead, along with their children, in a well. According to reports, the women had to face brutal dowry harassment at their in-laws’ house.

The women were constantly harassed by the their husbands demanding more dowry. However, the women’s father was unable to give them any more dowry. Following which, the sisters decided to end their lives and jumped into a well, along with Kalu’s children, a four-year-old boy and a 27-day old infant. Mamta and Kamlesh were pregnant. Before their death, they had sent a message to their sister’s phone, saying that their in-laws are responsible for their deaths. On the basis of which, the police had registered a case against the in-laws and arrested their husbands, mother-in-law and sister-in-law on charges of dowry abuse and domestic violence.
