Court orders re-investigation in Kerala university recruitment scam; also criticizes Crime Branch

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Special Vigilance Court has blocked the Crime Branch move to dismiss the controversial Kerala University Assistant recruitment fraud case which happened 14 years ago on the ground of lack of evidence. Judge G. Gopakumar ordered a new report within three months of the inquiry. The court has returned Crime Branch report which did not even mentions the statement of petitioner Sujith S Kurup.

The case alleges that the answer sheets were destroyed and computers were hidden on which the marks were recorded, to give appointments to party activists. 181 people were recruited in 2008 as per the rank list.

A chargesheet was filed against former Vice Chancellor Dr MK Ramachandran Nair, P.V.C V Jayaprakash, Syndicate members and CPM leaders AA Rashid, M.P. Russell, K.A. Andrews and the late B.S. Rajeev in 2014.

The Save University Campaign Committee has given petition the governor to direct the government to leave the investigation to CBI.
