THRISSUR: The Disaster Management Authority has made arrangements to ensure accuracy in lightning warning in Kerala, one of the eight states prone to lightning. At present, the three-hour alert is given by Damini mobile app and media, but now they decided to sent the warning as SMS half an hour in advance for greater accuracy. They have sought permission to install more sensors for this. At present sensors and weather stations are in Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Thrissur and Kannur districts. Radar will be also be installed in north Kerala.

The Central Meteorological Department is setting up 100 automated weather stations in the state. It is estimated that 2,500 people die from lightning in India every year.
