THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A middle-aged man died after he was thrashed by a mob allegedly for theft at Perunguzhi in Chirayinkeezh. He has been identified as Thulasi alias Chandran (50) of Vengode. The incident happened on May 28. Some people thrashed him after tying him for allegedly stealing some brass utensils from a house in Perunguzhi. On being informed, the Chirayinkeezh police took him into custody.

Chandran was brought to the station in a weak condition. The police later took him to Chirayinkeezh taluk hospital and he was subjected for a medical examination. Chandran was released on bail conditions after the complainants withdrew the case. He then went straight to his sister’s house in Vengode.

On reaching there, he developed uneasiness and was taken to a nearby primary health centre. The doctors who examined him directed him to go to the medical college hospital immediately. Instead of going to the hospital, he returned home with the medicines given. When his condition worsened the next day, his relatives took him to the medical college hospital.

The scanning conducted revealed intestinal damages and infection. Though Chandran was subjected for an emergency surgery and shifted to ICU, he died yesterday. The doctors said that severe thrashing may have caused damages to his internal organs. His body is kept in the medical college mortuary. The cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem.
