Motor vehicles department to freeze driving license for minor offenses due to increasing number of road accidents

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Vehicles Department has directed RTOs to take strict action like freezing of driving license even for minor offenses like riding without a helmet. The action is taken in the wake of increasing number of road accidents.

The offenses include driving two-wheelers with three passengers, not wearing a helmet, overspeeding, violating traffic signals, usimg mobile phones while driving and drunk driving. It also includes refusing to halt the vehicle when requested by officials for inspection. At first fines will be levied, if it is repeated then the license will be freezed.As part of this, inspections and actions will be strengthened.
