NEW DELHI: Former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s derogatory remarks against the prophet had sparked a lot of controversies. The BJP leader’s defamatory remarks had drawn in criticism from the Arab world among other countries. As the row and protests have almost subsided, India’s neighbour China has issued a statement on the issue. ‘All religions and civilizations should be respected’, China said in an official statement.

The Chinese government, which has been brutally torturing the Uygur Muslim minorities in camps, issued its statement on the Prophet comment row, the other day. ‘China always believes that different civilisations and religions should respect each other and live together as equals’, said the statement, released on the official website of the Chinese foreign ministry.

“We have noted relevant reports and hope that the situation will be handled properly,” said Wang Wenbin, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman.

Nupur Sharma’s remarks were condemned by several countries such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait. Following which, the BJP took disciplinary actions against Nupur Sharma and Delhi media in-charge Naveen Kumar Jindal. Protests, demanding the arrest of Nupur Sharma, had erupted across the country, last Friday.
