Charge sheet weighing 13.5 kg each given to 51 accused in Puttingal fireworks tragedy case, total of 2.09 lakh pages, brought in two jeeps

KOLLAM: The prosecution produced the copies of the charge sheet weighing 13.5 kilograms each to the accused in the Puttingal fireworks tragedy, at the Paravur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. 51 bundles were produced to be given to the 51 accused facing trial.

There are a total of 2.09 lakh pages in 51 bundles. The prosecution had earlier assured the court that the charge sheet would be 10,855 pages each, of which 4,022 pages would be provided free of cost. The copies of so much pages have now been produced. The charge sheet was brought in two jeeps from Kollam crime branch office last afternoon.

The high court has stayed the order of the Paravur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court to provide a copy of 10,855 pages to each accused. Following this, 4,022 pages each were produced in the court. A special court was allowed for the trial and the government has taken a decision to create the post. There are a total of 59 accused in the case but eight are not alive. The tragedy happened on April 10, 2016 at around 3.30 am. 110 people had died and more than 750 people sustained injuries.
