Shopian encounter: Terrorist involved in bank manager’s killing neutralized by security forces, two LeT militants killed

SRINAGAR: The terrorist, who killed bank manager Vijay Kumar, was neutralized by the security forces. Terrorist Jan Mohammad, who was involved in the killing of the banker, was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Shopian, on Tuesday night. Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were also killed in the encounter.

Vijay Kumar, a manager at Ellaqui Dehati Bank’s Areh Mohanpora branch in eastern Kashmir, was shot dead by terrorists on June 2. The killing of Kumar, a native of Hanumangarh in Rajasthan, had sparked a lot of protests. Jan Mohammad was identified from the CCTV visuals in the bank.

The killer was neutralised by the security forces within 12 days of the incident. In addition to the killing of the banker, Jan Mohammad was involved in other terrorist activities as well. The forces have recovered weapons including AK 47 rifles from the spot of the encounter.
