THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amid nationwide criticism rising against the Agnipath scheme announced by Central government, CPM national committee member and former minister TM Thomas Issac has now pointed out the disadvantages of the scheme. He wrote in Facebook that this might be part of Sangh Parivar agenda to implement compulsory military service for the youth, which was demanded by them for a long time.

Professional forces cannot be raised by recruiting soldiers on a four-year contract basis. This is a scheme to save pension money. This would compromise the efficiency and quality of the army, wrote Issac on Facebook.
