COLOMBO: Sri Lanka has been going through its worst financial crisis since independence. As the government ran out of enough dollars, the country is facing shortage of several commodities including essential medicines. Long queues have become a common sight in front of all petrol pumps in the island nation. Many have reportedly collapsed standing in such queues and have sought medical treatment.
However, former Sri Lankan cricketer and opening batsman Roshan Mahanama has come forward with an initiative to avoid such incidents. He was spotted serving tea and buns to those waiting in queues at a petrol station in Colombo. The cricketer came up with the noble gesture with the help of Community Meal Share, a non-profit organization. The cricketer himself shared the pictures of the same on Twitter. Mahanama and his team served tea and snacks at petrol pumps in Ward Place and Wijerama Mawatha.
We served tea and buns with the team from Community Meal Share this evening for the people at the petrol queues around Ward Place and Wijerama mawatha.

"The queues are getting longer by the day and there will be many health risks to people staying in queues," Mahanama said. “Please look after each other in the fuel queues. Bring adequate fluid and food,” he added.
