Found worms in beef kept for sale; Food safety department closes down slaughterhouse

THRISSUR: The Food and Safety department officials has shut down a slaughterhouse and a meat shop in Kerala after finding worms in the beef kept for sale. A man who bought meat from the slaughterhouse in Pannithadam, Thrissur found the worms. He informed the police and the stale meat was seized in a joint inspection by Food safety department and the police.

The Food safety department has seized 10 kg stale beef from here. After destroying the meat, the officials sent samples to the lab for testing. It has been instructed not to open the slaughterhouse or shop for sale until further notice.
