THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state human rights commission registered a case and ordered an inquiry on the complaint that a kidney patient died in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College due to a delay in organ transplant surgery. Human Rights Commission chairman Justice Antony Dominic asked the director of medical education to investigate the complaint and submit a detailed report within four weeks.

As per the complaint filed by human rights activists GS Sreekumar and Jose Y Das, the surgery was delayed due to the negligence of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College authorities. The kidney was brought from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram through the Green Channel in two and a half hours. However, the organ transplant surgery started three hours late. The complaint has been filed against the nephrology and urology departments of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
