THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Indian Medical Association (IMA) has criticized the health department's action in the incident in which a kidney patient died after undergoing organ transplant surgery at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The organization said the series of suspensions was a preposterous action intended to fool the public. The IMA criticized the health department for taking action against two senior doctors without examining the lapse in coordination at the administration level in the hospital.
According to the IMA, it seemed that the action was taken by someone unaware of the complications of the surgery. The IMA demanded that the health minister should refrain from such actions which would demoralize the health department employees. The medical college teachers said yesterday that the real problem in the medical college hospital was the shortage of staff and limitations and that they would launch an agitation soon if the action against the department heads was not withdrawn.
