NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for nearly 12 hours in an alleged money laundering case linked to the National Herald newspaper. The protest by the Congress against the interrogation, which continued for a fifth day, culminated in clashes. Several MPs were taken into police custody.
Rahul Gandhi, who arrived at the ED office with Priyanka Gandhi at 11 am, came out for a break at 8 pm. The interrogation resumed half an hour later. He finally came out of the ED office by around midnight. The ED had allowed the Congress leader to go out for lunch on the previous 4 days. The ED claimed that despite 11 hours of questioning on Monday, they did not get any clear information about the shareholding. Rahul may not be questioned today.
As the interrogation progressed, the 'Satyameva Jayate' protest organized by the Congress against it ended in clashes yesterday as well. The clash erupted when the Delhi Police and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) stopped the leaders, including MPs, who were marching towards Jantar Mantar. The protest was led by AICC General Secretary and MP KC Venugopal. Rajmohan Unnithan MP was injured after being dragged away by the police.
Leaders and activists, including MPs Kodikunnil Suresh, Benny Behnan, Anto Antony, Rajmohan Unnithan and Dean Kuriakose, were arrested and shifted to various police stations along the Delhi border.
