KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has granted anticipatory bail to actor and producer Vijay Babu on certain conditions in the case of sexually abusing an actress. The order was issued by a bench led by Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas. Prosecution additional director general Gracious Kuriakose appeared for the government.
The court granted him bail on certain conditions like he should appear before the investigating official from June 27 to July 3rd and cooperate with interrogation, should execute a bond of Rs 5 lakh, should not influence witnesses, should not leave the state, should not insult the actress and family on social media. The court also directed that if there is sufficient evidence to arrest him after the interrogation, then he should be granted bail.
The actor had informed the court that the relation with the actress was consensual and the complaint was part of a blackmailing for not offering her role in a new film. The actor argued that he had cooperated with the investigation as per court’s directive and that he should not be questioned again after taking him into custody.
However, the actress had informed the court that she was subjected to severe sexual harassment and exploitation. The prosecution also told the court that they want him in custody and more investigation has to be conducted.
