Valiyathamburan Ramavarmaraja of Pandalam palace passes away at 103

HARIPAD: The funeral of Revathi Thirunal P. Ramavarmaraja (103), the Valiyathamburan of Pandalam Palace, was held at the Ananthapuram palace premises in Haripad on Thursday. He died on Wednesday night. His nephew Dileep Varma lit the funeral pyre. AM Arif MP, Haripad Municipal Corporation Chairman KM Raju and DCC President B Babu Prasad were present.

He was born on October 19, 1919, as the son of Devadathan Namboothiri of Kummanam Karuvelil Illam and Pooyamthirunal Mangalathampuratti of Pandalam Kochukoikkal Lakshmivilasam Palace. After his graduation, he worked as a teacher and then joined the Railways in 1945. He retired in 1977 after 32 years of service. He was a member of university cricket team during his college days.

His wife Rugmini Varma died in 2017.Dr. SR Verma (Retired Health Department officer), Aniyan R. Verma (Retired Manager, Central Bank), Sashi R. Verma (Chartered Accountant) and Rema K. Thampuran are his children. Pandalam Valiyakoikal temple was closed down due to his death and will open on July 3.
