THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Those who fought fiercely from different political fronts. Those who lashed out at each other. Those who still valued friendships among high tense political battles. Several politicians and former MLAs were seen shedding tears of joy during the reunion of former MLAs at the Legislative Assembly on Thursday. These birds of a feather were seen sharing their memories and experiences.

Some of the former MLAs were accompanied by family members at the reunion. Late TM Jacob's wife, Daisy Jacob, and family members of some of those who passed away also attended the reunion. The meeting was organized by the Former MLA Forum at the K Sankaranarayanan Thampi Members Lounge in the Assembly building.

Inaugurating the meeting, Speaker MB Rajesh said that it was a great experience that those who once argued and fought valiantly from opposite sides in the assembly had gathered together to share their memories. He said that although the MLAs will be former MLAs when their terms expire, the status of the former MLA and the former MP will never change. Former Speaker M Vijayakumar, who is also the chairman of the forum, said that the Kerala Legislative Assembly, which made 1750 laws to date, met for 3396 days. UDF Convener MM Hasan said that former MLAs should be given a chance to discuss the bills which are discussed in the Assembly and left to the Select Committees. He also said that special opportunities should be given to the former members in the pre-budget discussions.

Former Speaker VM Sudheeran said that during the first assembly of 1957, the proceedings of the assembly never came to a standstill even when the liberation struggle was in full swing. He said it was fortunate that the current legislature had changed its intensity.
