NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea questioning the clean chit given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 63 others in the Gujarat riots case. The plea was filed by dead Congress leader Ehsaan Jafri's widow Zakia Jafri questioning the Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) report, which had rejected the conspiracy allegations against then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent people.
The Supreme Court held that Zakia’s appeal was devoid of merits and deserves to be dismissed and upheld the decision of the magistrate court to accept the closure report.
Zakia, who alleged that her complaints and other relevant evidence was not looked into by the SIT, also appealed the apex court to order an investigation into the matter. Kapil Sibal had appeared for Zakia Jafri, whose husband Ehsaan Jafri was killed amid the violence at Gulbarg Society in Ahmedabad on February 28, 2002.
