Attack on Indira Gandhi’s statue in Alappuzha, hand destroyed

ALAPPUZHA: The hand of an Indira Gandhi statue, situated near head post office in Alappuzha, was destroyed. In addition, the Rajiv Gandhi stupa at Vellakinar Junction and a flagpole at Chathanad Mannath ward were also vandalized.

The DYFI is behind the attack, alleged KPCC general secretary A A Shukoor. The police have registered a case on the complaint lodged with the Alappuzha DySP, by the block and constituency presidents. In the wake of the incidents, security has been beefed up at the district committee offices of the Congress, CPM, CPI and BJP, in the area.
