Heavy rains likely in state today; rain alerts in 13 districts, holiday for schools

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to lash the state on Tuesday. Isolated heavy showers have been forecasted across the state. Rain alerts have been declared in 13 districts except Thiruvananthapuram.

Orange alert has been declared in six districts namely Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod. Yellow alert has been issued in the districts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Palakkad and Wayanad.

Isolated showers and winds of 40-50 kmph are likely in Kerala for the next three hours, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Authorities have warned fishermen to refrain from venturing into sea. People in hilly areas should remain vigilant.

Holiday for schools

A holiday has been declared for all the schools and anganwadis in Kasaragod district. The holiday is not applicable for colleges. Due to the rising water levels in rivers, authorities have warned people to remain alert.
