Heavy rain continues to batter state; extensive damages, holiday for schools

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain is continuing in many parts of the state. There is heavy rain in northern districts. Many places in Kannur are waterlogged and houses flooded. There are reports that there are heavy damages in the hilly areas. There are widespread crop damages in Thrissur. The collectors have declared holiday for educational institutions in Kannur and Kasaragod.

‘In the wake of monsoon getting severe, all educational institutions including professional colleges, ICSC/CBSE Schools and Anganwadis in the district are given holidays,’ the collector informed via his Facebook page. All exams of Kannur University have been postponed.

Only schools in Kasargod are given a holiday. ‘As heavy rains continue in the district and rivers and other water bodies are overflowing, holidays have been declared for all schools including Anganwadis and Kendriya Vidyalayas in Kasaragod. Holidays are not applicable to colleges. Heads of educational institutions should take steps to accommodate the study time lost due to the holiday,’ informed the collector.
