MANGALURU: Three Keralites were killed in a landslide at Bantwal in Mangaluru. The dead has been identified as Biju (45) of Palakkad, Santhosh (46) of Alappuzha and Babu (46) of Kottayam. Johnny (44) of Kannur who sustained injuries has been admitted at a hospital in Mangaluru.
The rubber tapping labourers got buried under a pile of mud as a hill collapsed on the shed where they were staying. The incident happened last night at 7 pm.
The Central Meteorological Department had issued a red alert in coastal Karnataka districts following heavy rains. Following red alert in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, holidays have been declared for schools and colleges in both the districts today. Heavy rains disrupted life in the coastal areas of Karnataka and the Malnad region.
